UM’s bachelor’s degree programmes in accounting accredited by CPA Australia

Two bachelor’s degree programmes in accounting offered by the University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Business Administration, namely the Bachelor of Science in Accounting with Specialisation in Professional Accountancy and the Bachelor of Science in Accounting with Specialisation in Accounting and Information Systems, have been accredited by CPA Australia. Graduates of the two programmes can gain full foundation level exemption for free and direct entry to the CPA Programme, and are eligible to apply for CPA Australia membership.

By completing the professional segments of CPA Australia’s qualification programme within six years and accumulating three years of relevant working experience, an associate member of CPA Australia can then become a CPA (Australia). By accumulating more than 15 years of full-time working experience, including five years of executive working experience, a CPA (Australia) can become a fellow member of CPA Australia.

CPA Australia was founded in 1886. It is one of the world’s largest accounting bodies with more than 150,000 members working in 120 countries around the world, and with more than 16,000 members in the Greater China region. Its core services include providing members with education and training and strengthening members’ social status by establishing global network with different parties such as industries, governments, and regulators.

CPA Australia has offices located in Australia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam, as well as a liaison office in Macao. Over the years, CPA Australia has formed strategic alliances with various global bodies, such as the Certified General Accountants of Canada, the Society of Management Accountants of Canada, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland, and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. Members can benefit from the global network in term of career development.

CPA Australia’s qualification programme has attained ISO 9001 certification. Adopting distance learning methods, the programme integrates theory with practice, offering courses in global and contemporary issues, including business case studies. Students of the programme are required to complete four compulsory courses and two elective courses. Graduates of the programme with a minimum of three years of relevant working experience can claim credits in specialist master’s degree programmes and MBA degree programmes offered by universities across the world.
